Who are NOPA?

Who are NOPA?

NOPA is a Norwegian society of composers and lyricists. This society is devoted to getting the most out of the interests of composers and lyricists in Norway. Their society has over 1300 members who contribute towards creating Norwegian music. Their main objective is to ensure that songwriters and composers have the best possible conditions to create and perform Norwegian music.

NOPA is a society for people who hold copyrights to lyrics, music, or any other texts in musical works. As well as working to promote Norwegian creative musical work, NOPA also looks to strengthen professional cooperation, create meeting places, and ensure that its members are able to stay in line with their artistic and financial interests.

The financial situation for musical artists has changed drastically over the past few decades. Nowadays, it requires lots of legislation, grant schemes, and negotiations. There are a lot of economic and political decisions that need to be made by artists when they are considering sharing their work with commercial music services, radio, or tv channels. NOPA makes sure to put a lot of effort and resources into helping artists overcome some of these issues when working in the music industry. This helps contribute to NOPA’s main goal of improving the conditions for all composers and lyricists.

The core of NOPA’s work is the assistance they provide for the artists in terms of policy work such as providing consultations, opinions, and cooperation with other organizations. These are all issues that can sometimes be overlooked by the artist and become overwhelming if not dealt with correctly. That is exactly where the NOPA society comes in.

NOPA also offers work project apartments to its musicians. They have work apartments in Berlin (Germany), Vence (France), and London (England) that their music composers and lyricists from Norway can use when they need a place to immerse themselves in their work. It can also be used for networking and as a place to stay while these musicians are on work-related trips to the area.

NOPA is currently partnered with several EEA-grants-funded international projects in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Portugal, and Lithuania. The EEA and Norway Grants embody the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway and work at reducing the economic and social disparities between the nations. It also works to strengthen its relationship with 15 EU countries in central and southern Europe.
